The inspiration for this design came from the distinct properties of the recipes and beer styles produced by 9three Brewing. Each beer has its own symbolism, with patterns derived from an early concept of a target, adapted to represent the characteristics of each brew. The product naming and colors were also inspired by the unique qualities of the recipes.
To achieve a harmonious and balanced look, Saraiva incorporated the Phi rectangle harmonic decompositions from Matila Ghyka. This mathematical principle, known as the golden ratio, guided the design process and ensured proportional and visually pleasing label sizes. The labels were carefully placed on the body and neck of the glass bottles, creating smaller segments within the golden ratio.
What sets this design apart is its ability to catch the eye at first glance. Bold colors and patterns flowing from the beer names draw attention to the labels, making them stand out on the shelf. To further differentiate the brand, the labels feature a unique branding stripe at the bottom, giving the bottles a distinctive look.
The 9three Brewing labels are made using high-quality glass bottles, available in 300ml and 500ml sizes. The colorful labels and product naming encourage consumers to try something new, while the patterns help them remember the brews with ease.
Throughout the design process, the goal was to create a visual appearance that represents the vision of 9three Brewing. The brand's passion for craft beer and their contemporary approach to brewing required a design that was catchy, unique, and reflected their unconventional style.
The 9three Brewing beer packaging design project was completed in June 2017 in Brazil. It was a response to the growing craft beer market and the need to distinguish the brand from established players. By applying a unique and impactful visual appearance, 9three Brewing successfully stands out in the competitive beer industry.
This innovative beer packaging design has been recognized with the Iron A' Design Award in 2018. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The 9three Brewing design impressed the judges with its integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and contribution to a better world.
